The Executive Committee comprises a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and ? other members, all of whom are elected during the AGM.

Those elected serve in an honorary capacity and receive no remuneration for services rendered.

The committee meets at least once every two months to discuss matters of interest to the industry.

Jeremy Kellett

Jeremy Kellett

Jeremy has served on the FFETA executive committee since 1985 and was Chairman for the period 1998 to 2003 as well as currently. He has been involved with the fire industry since 1973 and is the managing director of his own fire equipment company. He is also a director and technical chairman of the Centa Group of fire companies and is a partner in a fire equipment company that focuses on carrying out national contract work for the Centa Group.

He is a founding member of the SAQCC(Fire) having served on their executive committee since its early beginnings in 1996.   As chairman of their technical committee, he was appointed to oversee and edit the recent re-write of the SAQCC(Fire) Operations Manual.

A further area of his involvement with the fire industry is his participating membership of number of SABS technical working committees where he has been actively involved in the drafting and updating of various SANS standards for the fire industry.

Brett Jones

Brett Jones

Brett Jones has been involved in the fire industry since 1968. He first worked for MSA in Durban and transferred to Jhb as the Industrial Sales Manager in 1975. He was Managing Director of Natfire and General Manager of Angus Fire SA and finally Managing Director of Chubb Fire until retirement in 2004. He is the current Chairman of SAQCC Fire and has been in that position since his retirement in 2004 and is a participating member of a number of SABS technical committees.


James Nunnerley

James Nunnerley

After joining Chubb Fire as a salesman in 1974, James Nunnerley went on to specialise in the marine fire and safety service industry with Landmarine Fire Fittings. He is currently managing a Marine Fire & Safety Division for BOSSS Lifeboats & Lifesaving Services in Durban.


Rosemary Cowan

Rosemary Cowan – Administration Manager

Rosemary emigrated to South Africa in December 1989 and has been working for FFETA since May 1990 when her father, Frank Sims was the Administrator. Following his death in July 1997, she took over his position as Administrator for FFETA and then with the inception of SAQCC Fire, took on the administration of that as well, in 1999. She is currently the Administrator for FFETA, SAQCC Fire and the Administration Manager for the South African Institute of Security.


Astrid Mugge

Astrid Mugge – Vice Chairman

Astrid has served on the FFETA executive committee since 2005 and has held the position of Vice Chairperson since 2007.  She has also served on the SAQCC(Fire) executive committee since 2007 after having attended their meetings for some time as an invited observer.

Her involvement with the fire industry began in her early childhood when she started assisting her father in his fire equipment company.  After completing her studies in 2001, she decided to follow in her fathers’ footsteps and is now an integral part of the family business, where besides ensuring the day to day smooth running of the business, she is solely responsible for the functioning of their SANAS accredited Test Station.

She is one of the few female SAQCC(Fire) registered competent persons in the country and has quickly become recognized as a respected and important member of the fire industry.


Kobus Breedt

Kobus Breedt

After a 15 year period in sales and marketing in the FMCG industry, working up to Regional Manager's level – and then a six year stint in the insurance industry as a Branch Manager – Kobus Breedt became involved with the fire industry in 1993.

He joined Springbok Fire as branch manager and after a merger in 2004 was appointed as General Manager for the Dumela Diamond Fire group. He has been a member of the SAQCC-Fire committee since 2002, the last two years serving as Treasurer.

Lizl Davel

Lizl Davel

Lizl studied journalism at the University of Stellenbosch and after working in Namibia, bought Atlas Fire Security from her father in 1990. She has since been actively involved in the fire industry and serves on bodies such as the Industrial Fire Technology Association and the SAQCC. She serves on the board of the CENTA fire group.


Johan Pretorius

Johan Pretorius

Johan Pretorius joined Chubb Fire in 1994 managing the production facility. He was instrumental in the setup of their new manufacturing facility in Midrand. After a period of working outside South Africa, he returned to the same position and then moved on to Safequip (Pty) Ltd., where he is currently National Technical Manager.
