EN 1964-1:
The confusion around this has now finally been resolved. The Department of Employment and Labour issued a letter confirming that EN1964-1 marked cylinders are technically not allowed to be imported or distributed in SA after the withdrawal date of June 2010.
However, they have made a note that ONLY applies to SafeQuip extinguishers that were imported after June 2010, but only if they have the markings “JX/CN” on them. SafeQuip had provided enough proof to the department that at the time they were imported, these cylinders at least complied with the SANS 347. NO other manufacturer has submitted evidence in this regard and Test Stations will still have to make the determination on such cylinders based on if the manufacturer can prove compliance, otherwise they will still be scrapped in the event that they are stamped with EN1964-1 after June 2010.
